History

The first ever Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place in Denmark, in 2003. Ever since, the contest takes place every year in November or December.

Copenhagen 2003
First Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Saturday, 15th of November, 2003

The first ever Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Kids from 16 countries took part, all singing the songs they wrote themselves. Dino Jelusić from Croatia won with the catchy song Ti Si Moja Prva Ljubav, which means You Are My First Love. Busted and the Sugababes performed during the break.

Lillehammer 2004
Second Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Saturday, 20th of November, 2004

The second Junior Eurovision Song Contest was planned to take place in the United Kingdom, but moved to Croatia. Unfortunately, Croatian television was not able of organizing the contest, so Norwegian broadcaster NRK offered to host the event. Kids from 18 countries came together in Lillehammer. María Isabel with her song Antes Muerta Que Sencilla, which means Better Dead Than Normal, won the contest. It became a big hit! The popular boyband Westlife performed during the break.

Hasselt 2005 - Let's Get Loud!
Third Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Saturday, 26th of November, 2005

The third Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place in the small city of Hasselt, in Belgium. Kids from 16 countries came together to celebrate the contest's third anniversary, and performed their self-written songs while a heavy snowstorm hit. Fortunately, it was warm and comfortable inside. It was the 10-year old Ksenia Sitnik with My Vmeste (We Are Together) who won the competition in a close race with Spain. Europe held its breath when the scoreboard froze during the show. Presenters Marcel Vanthilt and Maureen Louys had to entertain the viewers while the problem was solved behind the scenes. Cirque du Soleil performed a spectacular act during the break.

Bucharest 2006 - Let The Music Play
Fourth Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Saturday, 2nd of December, 2006

The Romanin capital Bucharest had the honour of hosting the fourth Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The Romanians made a cheerfulshow out of it, with a guest role for the famous Dracula. Andreea Marin Bănică and the young Ioana Ivan hosted the show, during which participants from 15 countries performed. The Tolmachevy Twins from Russia won the show with Vesna, which means Spring Jazz. Previous winner Ksenia Sitnik performed during the break, followed by breakdancing, traditional Romanian dancing and a remix of the last three Romanian participants at the contest.

Rotterdam 2007 - Make A Big Splash
Fifth Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Saturday, 8th of December, 2007

Sipke Jan Bousema and popular singer Kim-Lian van der Meij presented the fifth Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. 17 countries were represented during the show, which was co-produced with UNICEF. The contestants sang a special song, dedicated to children all over the world, titled One World. Belarus won the contest for the second time, thanks to Alexey Zhigalkovich' song S Druzyami, which means With Friends. Katie Melua and Chipz performed during the break.

Lemesos 2008 - Fun in the Sun
Sixth Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Saturday, 22nd of November, 2008

Sophia Paraskeva and Alex Michael hosted the sixth Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Lemesos, Cyprus. The sunny Mediterranean island was the home for kids from fifteen countries for a whole week. The show was once again co-produced with UNICEF and all the participants of this year's show sung the song Hand In Had to help children all over the world to get clean water. Georgia won the contest with a song in bee-language called Bzz.. and performed by the charming trio Bzikebi. Dima Bilan and Evridiki with Dimitris Korgialas performed during the breaks.
