Voting method

Citizens of each participating country vote by telephone and SMS, which counts for 50%. Each country's 10 favourites are awarded 1 to 8, 10 and 12 points based on the number of vote. A jury in each country also has a 50% say in the outcome.

The 2009 Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place on the 21st of November in Kyiv, Ukraine.

The story behind the show

The 2009 Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place on the 21st of November in Kyiv, Ukraine.

In the summer of 2008, it was announced that Kyiv would host the 7th Junior Eurovision Song Contest. They also had the same honour back in 2005 when they hosted the Eurovision Song Contest.

Thirteen countries took part in the contest this time, with Sweden making a return this year in Kyiv.

In the end it was Ralf from the Netherlands winning their first ever Junior Eurovision Song Contest trophy.
