Geneva, Switzerland -

After a competitive bid procedure, the event's Steering Group elected Public Television Company of Armenia (AMPTV) as Host Broadcaster of the 2011 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. It will be the 9th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest's 'younger brother'. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced that today.

Despite Armenia's victory at the last contest in Minsk, Belarus, it was not at all sure if the nation would get the honor of hosting the competition. Traditionally, the Host Broadcaster of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is being appointed through a bid procedure.

AMPTV plans to hold the contest at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex in Yerevan, which was recently renovated.

"Together with AMPTV, we are eager to put together the coolest Junior Eurovision Song Contest that Europe has seen so far. The event is extremely popular in Armenia and their strong bid gave us the confidence they will be capable to put together a great show," says Sietse Bakker, Supervisor of the contest on behalf of the EBU.

The preliminary date for the 2011 Junior Eurovision Song Contest is Saturday, 3rd of December.

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest was established in 2003. In 2010, the contest was broadcast live from Minsk, Belarus, where young talents between 10 and 15 from 14 nations showed their skills. The contest was aired in Australia as well. For more information, visit www.junioreurovision.tv.

SHuSHa stop with your comments, you see that Eurovision.tv deletes them! Armenia will make a great show, everybody knows that. Azerbaijan should debut at Junior Eurovision, even if it is in Yerevan. Nobody hates you, you should not hate us. Eurovision should not be accused in the political problems - Eurovision is not for that. report to the moderator

Indeed Armenia was the first one to debut in Eurovision from Caucasus, and they're the first ones holding a Eurovision event in the Caucasus. I would be pleasantly surprised if either Turkey or Azerbaijan will make their debut in Yerevan, though I am 99.9% sure it won't happen! report to the moderator

    Good News for Armenia.

I imagine the enjoyment of all Armenians inside and out.

But Armenia has to prove that the country is able to organize a big event such as JESC.

A big challenge waits for Armenia.

We will see...in 2011 report to the moderator

I am really happy for all the armenians, and Armenia that they now get this chance to show Europe a great show.

Armenia also deserves this hosting rigths, because they won the competition in 2010, so I hope from now on, that the winning nation gets the rights to host the competition next year.

Just like in ESC, then I think the contest will be better, and that west-european countries will try to compete for the hounor of winning and hosting, instead of just winning and see another country getting the hosting rights.

I really hope that one of my countries returnes to the contest(Denmark or Romania), the 2010 is the only edition where I coundent cheer for my own country, and it made the competition a little less fun to watch, but still the 2010 edition in Belarus has been the best ever, I have seen JESC in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010, 2004 was a bad eurovision year for me(I was not a fan back then). :-P report to the moderator
